Victoria Crowned Pigeon (Goura Victoria) left is a bird of the forest floor in Papua New Guinea's undisturbed floodplain forest. This large ground dwelling pigeon (26" or 66 cm) with its spectacular white-tipped plumed crest is unmistakable. The call is a low booming sound. Any large ground bird is also a potential source of meat to forest predators and man, this species however is somewhat tame, and occurs in small flocks in preferred habitat. And there is lies the potential fate of such a species. For as the large primary (uncut) lowland rainforest fall to the saw, so will go such gems as the pheasant-sized crowned pigeon.
Common Shama Thrush (Copsychus malabaricus) right is a beautiful songster of thickets and dense forest across much of the region (India, China, Borneo etc.). Owing to the complex yet plaintive quality of its voice, the species has experience decline in parts of its range due to trapping for captive cage birds or pets.
